Our story begins in 1956 when the Sbragia family emigrated from Tuscany to the bustling city of Chicago with nothing but their passion for cooking and a dream of a better life.
Signora Sbragia may not have been able to teach young Angelo English, but she did teach him how to survive in America and keep his Tuscan roots alive.
Our Journey
A Legacy of Flavor
The Journey Begins
The Sbragia family emigrates from Tuscany to Chicago, bringing with them generations of culinary tradition and a dream of sharing authentic Italian cuisine.
A Young Chef Emerges
At just 12 years old, Angelo starts working in the family pizzeria, learning the ins and outs of the restaurant business and mastering the recipes passed down through generations.
Mangia Mangia is Born
Angelo decides to start his own restaurant, and Mangia Mangia is born. It quickly becomes a beloved spot for locals and tourists alike, serving up authentic Italian cuisine made with love and care.
Overcoming Adversity
Things weren't always easy. The family lost their lease, then 9/11 hit, followed by the Credit Crunch. Through it all, Angelo never gave up on his dream of serving the best Italian food in Chicago.
The Legacy Continues
Now, the next generation of Sbragias is carrying on Angelo's legacy, serving the same authentic recipes and warm hospitality that made Mangia Mangia a Chicagoland institution.
