Our Story

Angelo Sbragia, Mangia Mangia Founder

Welcome to Mangia Mangia, where we serve up the best Italian food in Chicago!

Our story begins in 1956 when the Sbragia family emigrated from Tuscany to the bustling city of Chicago with nothing but their passion for cooking and a dream of a better life. Signora Sbragia may not have been able to teach young Angelo English, but she did teach him how to survive in America and keep his Tuscan roots alive.

At just 12 years old, Angelo started working in the family pizzeria, learning the ins and outs of the restaurant business. In 1993, he decided to start his own restaurant, and Mangia Mangia was born. It quickly became a beloved spot for locals and tourists alike, serving up authentic Italian cuisine made with love and care.

But things weren't always easy for Angelo and his family. In 2001, they lost their lease, and then the 9/11 attacks and the Credit Crunch hit. Through it all, Angelo never gave up on his dream of serving the best Italian food in Chicago. And now, even though age has sidelined him, the next generation of Sbragias is carrying on his legacy.

At Mangia Mangia, we believe that good food brings people together. That's why we use only the freshest ingredients and traditional recipes passed down through generations. Whether you're in the mood for a classic pizza or a hearty pasta dish, we've got you covered.

So come on in, sit down, and Mangia Mangia! We're proud to be a part of the Illinois Countryside community, and we can't wait to serve you!
